A for OX

As a full-time employee of my company I (rather I should write we) have to spend most of my day time working on a project. Sometime I find it hard to get involved my self in a creative activity which in not officially associated with the work. In January 2008 we were given an exciting 5 days online exercises which wasn’t related to projects but to burst our creative juices. I was disappointed with myself as I could only completed 3 days. Here I am sharing you one of the exercises.

The task was to portrait an ‘ox’ only using the letter ‘A’, we could stretch, transform, rotate or could do anything with the letter.

Started with net-search got few images and illustrations. Few points came out:

  • Well recognized shape could be ‘V’ for an ox.
  • Horns define the beast more.
  • The entire composition should give the glimpse of Power, Strength & Aggression.

A for OXClearly the first thumbnail was a vertical flip of ‘A’ but then explored further to find possible solutions. On the right side you can see the final output. The font used here is Impact (Once this font used to be my favorite for headings when I was working with an ad agency). Corners have been rounded to give it more natural feel. Horn is referenced from Mariage font. What best I like that way I could use the middle triangle as eye. When it came to color only a dark red I had in mind and it is proudly justifying with the composition.

Just after finishing this I found a website by Jeremy Pettis where he uses typography at its best.
