CorelTrace

As I promised in my earlier post, I am sharing you to how to deal with the pen tool in CorelDraw. The basic tracing method is same as one can do tracing with Illustrator (by placing a reference image in the background and then outlining the objects) but the difference in the CorelDraw is the pen tool. Here I have found one way to deal with this tool. Note that I am not going to tell you the complete process of doing the tracing but telling you the pen tool behavior also not that there could be other way to do the same but I am sharing what I have found is best, fast and simple if you know any other easiest way then please share with me and others by commenting.

Step1: So start by placing your sketch in the background (better to use the ‘Object Manager’ for better control over your artwork).

Step2: Using the pen tool start outlining a rough shape of your target object. Close your path by coming back from where you have started.

CorelDraw Trace

As I mentioned in my earlier post that Corel’s Pen tool is quite different from the one we have in Illustrator or Photoshop. Still, I challenged my-self to do a manual trace of above sketch which is one of my friend and telling you the truth that Corel’s Pen tool is very fast in handling, good at rendering and fun to use :-) but yes you have to find your own way to work with it. I am in middle of this digital illustration and I will share my process and complete illustration with you in my next post.

I am using CorelDraw since 2004. I discovered these short-cuts on the job. I started my career with this application, now you can understand my love with this software. So toady I am sharing my trade-secrets with you ;-) . If you want to know anything specific then leave your request in comments. I will be updating this list as I will get time.

1. Drawing a rectangle same size as your art-board: CorelDraw Tip
If you are struggling to match the size of a box with your art-board, then here is a short-cut—just double click the rectangle icon in the tool box and you will have a outline covering your art-board.

2. Short-cut for getting in or out of Power Clip.

After putting your artwork in ‘Power Clip’ what do u do to get in? Most of the CorelDraw user go by the ‘Edit Content’ to go in and use ‘Finish Editing Object’ button to get out. Phew!! so much clicks, here is a short-cut to go inside:

1) Select the object.
2) Press CTRL and click over the power cliped object, See around you are in!
