Last year I designed this seamless pattern for one of my projects. This pattern was required as a background pattern for an Indian web-page. Unfortunately that project ended with nothing so I am giving this seamless pattern for free download. I designed a custom font for this pattern with some other elements. Manually traced after scanning. You are free to use this pattern as a personal or commercial use. Below are few examples where you can use this pattern besides you design projects. Apparel & other designs are made possible by www.zazzle.com

CorelTrace

As I promised in my earlier post, I am sharing you to how to deal with the pen tool in CorelDraw. The basic tracing method is same as one can do tracing with Illustrator (by placing a reference image in the background and then outlining the objects) but the difference in the CorelDraw is the pen tool. Here I have found one way to deal with this tool. Note that I am not going to tell you the complete process of doing the tracing but telling you the pen tool behavior also not that there could be other way to do the same but I am sharing what I have found is best, fast and simple if you know any other easiest way then please share with me and others by commenting.

Step1: So start by placing your sketch in the background (better to use the ‘Object Manager’ for better control over your artwork).

Step2: Using the pen tool start outlining a rough shape of your target object. Close your path by coming back from where you have started.

Want an easy attention in India? Be around to what is already popular—cricket. This is what Indian companies are doing right now to promote their brand makeover. After the ‘Godrej’ and ‘Ceat’ now this time its ‘Kitply’ although after the latest IPL 20-20 matches I am feeling that too much of cricket has happened, so I wasn’t following the ongoing cricket series in Bangladesh until this morning I saw Kitply’s logo makeover-ad in the front-page of a newspaper and it seems that the logo has clearly affected by the pressure of finishing a project on time. As the designer has forgotten the basics of a logo design.

Kitply is a know name is India not only in corporate sector but in between common-man also. And according to their website (which is a true example of web -2.0) Read more…

CorelDraw Trace

As I mentioned in my earlier post that Corel’s Pen tool is quite different from the one we have in Illustrator or Photoshop. Still, I challenged my-self to do a manual trace of above sketch which is one of my friend and telling you the truth that Corel’s Pen tool is very fast in handling, good at rendering and fun to use :-) but yes you have to find your own way to work with it. I am in middle of this digital illustration and I will share my process and complete illustration with you in my next post.

I am using CorelDraw since 2004. I discovered these short-cuts on the job. I started my career with this application, now you can understand my love with this software. So toady I am sharing my trade-secrets with you ;-) . If you want to know anything specific then leave your request in comments. I will be updating this list as I will get time.

1. Drawing a rectangle same size as your art-board: CorelDraw Tip
If you are struggling to match the size of a box with your art-board, then here is a short-cut—just double click the rectangle icon in the tool box and you will have a outline covering your art-board.

2. Short-cut for getting in or out of Power Clip.

After putting your artwork in ‘Power Clip’ what do u do to get in? Most of the CorelDraw user go by the ‘Edit Content’ to go in and use ‘Finish Editing Object’ button to get out. Phew!! so much clicks, here is a short-cut to go inside:

1) Select the object.
2) Press CTRL and click over the power cliped object, See around you are in!

School Chale Hum

school chale hum

In India, its result time, as 10th and 12th standard’s results are being declared. Congratulations!! to all the students. Above illustration I just finished in illustrator, dedicated to these students & ‘School Chale Hum’ song—its inspirational & nostalgic to me :) reminds me the days when I used to go school.

About the song:
192 million children between 6-14 years of age across 1.1 million places in India are not going to school. This film for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (Universilisation of Elementary Education) addresses the needs of these children. The film catches the moment when children all across India from Kashmir to Kerala wake up in the morning and run to go to school.

In 2003, just after completing my diploma I started to draw cartoons, I sent few of them to my cartoonist friend ‘Alok Sharma’ whom I met through internet. Few days later, I got a reply saying that he liked them a lot and he had sent to ‘Triambak Sharma’ founder & editor of Cartoon Watch. After three days the editor himself sent me a mail, which wasn’t too long but shot enough to make me feel good. It was like this:

Hi Sandeep,
I received you cartoons through Alok Sharma. I like your style and sense of humor very much, which is more like western cartoonists. I am publishing them in our next edition.
~Triambak Sharma

For me it was like a dream come true to see your cartoons in a magazine. I also met him once when he was in Delhi along with his family. I continued my contribution in Cartoon Watch for next 6 months but then got so much busy in job and couldn’t continue. Below are the most appreciated cartoons, these were done directly in Flash:
